Why your 30's and 40's can feel like moving countries.

Hi friends!

I’m finally back on our tiny island oasis of Barbados — and let me tell you, while my brain isn't as excited to return, my body is thrilled to be home.

The past month has been everything I love about life:
✨ new foods
✨ new culture,
✨ worldschooling for Adina,
✨ a magical wedding,
✨ thousands of steps a day,
✨ and scenery that made my heart melt.

But my body?
My body is standing here like,
“Ma’am. Sit. Down.  And eat a vegetable, please!”

Travel Joanie is fun.
Travel Joanie is adventurous.
Travel Joanie also has:

  • no strength training for 4 weeks,

  • a questionable fiber situation,

  • digestive issues we will NOT be discussing further,

  • not enough water because… Mexico water,

  • and shoes that should have been retired in 2022.

So today I go back to the gym for my first session with my trainer and I am mentally preparing to be humbled. Humbled HARD.

And honestly… that’s OK.
Because my body is relieved to be home, to be still, to hydrate, to eat real vegetables again (Mexico, I love everything about you, but corn flour is not a vegetable), and to fall back into routine.

And it reminded me of something I say to my clients all the time:

The hormonal transitions of pregnancy, postpartum and menopause is basically like traveling in a foreign country full-time.

Every day can feel different.
Every week needs a new strategy.
You THINK you’ve figured it out…
and then hormones, sleep, stress, digestion, life, kids — whatever — go,
“Cute. Let’s start over.”

Puberty → Pregnancy → Postpartum → Peri/menopause
Every chapter comes with its own plot twist.

And THIS is exactly why so many women feel like they’re constantly losing their footing.
Because the needs keep changing — and you keep trying to figure it out alone.

This is exactly why I created The Power Project.

8 weeks.
1 goal.
Finally follow through.

It’s not a random workout plan.
It’s not a YouTube playlist.
It’s not “hope I stay motivated this time.”

It is:

✔️ Weekly 1:1 coaching with me
✔️ Group support so you don’t quit when life gets life-y
✔️ Corrective exercise that addresses YOUR actual body
✔️ Structure that keeps you accountable
✔️ Direction so you stop starting over every Monday

And I’m going to be blunt here (lovingly):

**If 2025 felt like slipping through cracks…

2026 doesn’t have to.
But you need a plan.
And support.
And someone to actually walk you through the follow-through.**

That’s what The Power Project is.
And the doors are open right now.

I know it’s scary to start.

I know it's scary to make the investment in time and money.

I know it’s easy to wait.

I also know that every woman who has worked with me 1:1 says the same thing:

“I wish I started sooner.”

Let’s make 2026 the year you stop wishing
and start building.

With love (and a happily hydrated gut),
Coach Joanie

Back to my big, juicy morning stretch routine in the back yard.  My brain is ready to go again...but my body is saying, thank you for taking a beat.

Winter Really Chaps My...everything
Hi friends,   The Rubins are living life on the road again.    Four days in NYC. Currently in Baltimore. Pennsylvania next week. Ohio after that.   It’s the year of bar mitzvahs and weddings and extended family everything. Normally, I love an extended travel stretch. Except this time?   It’s cold.   And not “oh, I need a light sweater” cold. It’s “why does air hurt my face?” cold.   We haven’t ...
Edible.  But not delicious.
Hi friends, It’s the end of the week, which means market day is tomorrow. And if I’m unlucky enough to be cooking on a Friday night, there is a very real chance I am making a meal that only loosely resembles the recipe I originally planned. If you know me, you know I LOVE a meal plan.Like… emotionally attached to a meal plan. (I have a dedicated Google Calendar just for dinners. This is not a jo...
When life hands you lemons...you cry.
Hi friends, This week’s lesson was a masterclass in resilience, pivots, and not panicking when the plan falls apart — taught by a 9-year-old with a lemonade stand. My daughter has become laser-focused over the last few weeks on running a lemonade stand. Not a casual “set up a table and see what happens” situation. No. A vision. A brand. A location. A sunset vibe. (It’s been named Last Light Lem...
